Doran Horsley
Operations East Manager
Doran Horsley serves as the General Manager of Paradigm Lumber, bringing with him a wealth of experience that makes him an excellent fit for the role. He began his career in construction as a draftsman and estimator, later advancing to a superintendent position. From there, Doran transitioned into outside lumber sales and lumber wholesaling.
Today, he leads Paradigm Lumber with a focus on strong customer relationships, actively seeking new partnerships while continuing to serve our clients with pride and dedication.
In his free time, Doran enjoys fishing, hunting, relaxing at the lake, and spending quality time with his wife and two daughters.

Shawn Boyer
Outside Sales/Contractor Sales
Shawn began his career in the construction industry at the age of 22, working for a general contractor that handled every phase of a project—from concrete to finish carpentry. In the early 2000s, he launched his own framing company, which he successfully operated for over 20 years.
In his free time, Shawn enjoys spending time with his kids, riding his Indian motorcycle, and pursuing his passion for hunting and fishing.

Paradigm Lumber is proud to introduce Mike Uithoven, who brings over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. His expertise includes drafting, design, project management, estimating, and material takeoffs.
Mike plays a key role on our team, leading efforts in material takeoffs, plan design, and estimating. His attention to detail ensures your project is well-planned and fully supplied.

Dave Carlson

Dave Carlson began his career in the construction industry as a superintendent in 2014, overseeing several large apartment projects over the course of nearly nine years. These projects ranged in size from 8-unit buildings to developments with over 100 units.
Dave later transitioned into contractor sales, driven by a passion for customer service and a commitment to ensuring every project is fully and accurately supplied. His dedication helps keep projects running smoothly from start to finish.
In his free time, Dave enjoys boating and spending weekends at the lake with family and friends.

Brad Spaans
Sales Manager
Brad Spaans grew up in Beresford, where he met his wife, Rebecca. He is a proud father of three sons, who keep him busy when he's not at work.
Brad is a seasoned professional with a diverse background spanning construction, architecture, design, sales, management, and mortgage lending. With hands-on experience in the construction industry, he has developed a solid understanding of building techniques, materials, and processes. His background in architecture and design allows him to balance functionality with aesthetics in every project.
Brad later transitioned into the mortgage sector, where he used his industry expertise to help clients navigate financing options for their dream homes and investment properties.
His well-rounded skill set and deep passion for the building industry make him a valuable asset to the Paradigm team.

Steve Morehead
Steve grew up in Hawarden, IA. After serving in the US Navy, he moved to Sioux Falls in 1999 and has been amazed at how much this city has grown since then. He has had various roles in the fuel and lumber industries, including dispatching, delivering, and providing great customer service.

When he’s not assisting customers at our yard or delivering to jobs, you’ll find him spending time with his family or walking his Great Danes and enjoying the outdoors.
Jim Johnson
Outside Sales/Contractor Sales
Jim built his first home when he was 22 years old. Since then, he has built approximately 250 homes throughout the area over the years. He built the first Energy Star net zero home in Iowa back in 2002 and has been a license building inspector with Energy Star as well. He has a lot of knowledge and is a great resource for any project he is involved with..

Samantha Akers
Architectural Drafter
Samantha moved to Sioux Falls over eight years ago after earning her associate’s degree in architectural engineering. Her favorite part of the job is that no two floor plans are exactly alike—giving her the opportunity to create the best possible layout for both functionality and style.
She enjoys working closely with contractors and homeowners to ensure a smooth and enjoyable design process.
Outside of work, Samantha loves spending time with her husband, Hunter, their daughter, and their two puppies.

Mercedes Hebert
Office Assistant
Mercedes joined Paradigm Lumber in January 2025 as an office assistant. She grew up in Beresford and attended Southeast Technical College, where she earned an associate’s degree in Accounting.
In her free time, Mercedes enjoys fishing and spending time with her dogs, Cash and Jolene.
She is a great asset to our team here at Paradigm, and we’re lucky to have her.

Sean Sullivan
Office Administrator

Sean is the Inside Salesman at Paradigm Lumber in Black Hawk. Originally from Brookings, SD, he grew up enjoying the outdoors and playing sports. These days, he spends most of his free time on the golf course or with his family.
Before joining Paradigm, Sean worked for an exterior contractor in Rapid City for several years, eventually deciding to pursue a career in lumber distribution and sales.
His favorite part of working at Paradigm is the family-first atmosphere, where he can enjoy what he does while serving contractors and homeowners throughout the Black Hills area.

Andrew Wienk
Operations West Manager

Andy and his wife relocated to the Black Hills area in May 2024 from eastern South Dakota after their youngest graduated from high school. Andy brings a wealth of knowledge to the construction and building industry through his background as an architectural draftsman.
He previously worked at Homestead Building Supplies in Brookings, SD, and holds an associate’s degree from Lake Area Technical College as well as a bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University. With 16 years of experience in drafting and design, Andy has developed a deep understanding of building plans and project needs.
He has been a wonderful addition to the Paradigm family.

Tom Anderson
Yard Foreman/Driver

Tom brings his contagious “Every day is a GREAT day” attitude to the team at Paradigm Lumber and delivers that same positivity to customers with every stop he makes. Over the past several years, he has gained extensive experience operating a wide range of vehicles, including tractor/trailer combinations, side dumps, end dumps, and straight trucks. He is fully endorsed to operate any commercial motor vehicle.
Tom takes pride in learning the ins and outs of the building materials industry. His strong attention to detail and commitment to safety are evident in everything he does. With an excellent safety record, outstanding punctuality, and thorough knowledge of equipment, machinery, and USDOT regulations, Tom is an indispensable member of the Paradigm family.
When he's not behind the wheel making deliveries, Tom enjoys hiking, spending time with family, and playing with his new puppy.

Blake is a dedicated and detail-oriented CAD draftsman with one year of professional experience, specializing in creating precise technical drawings and designs. He holds an associate’s degree in Architectural Drafting/Design and is proficient in industry-standard software.
Blake takes pride in turning ideas into clear, actionable blueprints that align with project specifications. With a strong foundation in drafting principles and a passion for design, he is eager to continue growing and contributing to innovative architectural and engineering solutions.

Thomas Griffee

Tom was born and raised in Sturgis. He enjoys boxing, mentoring youth, fishing, and riding his Harley—but most of all, he loves spending time with his family. His wife, three sons and their wives, and two grandsons are the heart of his life.
With over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, Tom has been involved in nearly every phase of building—from concrete work to finish carpentry. He holds an associate’s degree in Architectural Drafting and Design and is well-versed in all aspects of construction.
Tom takes pride in using his knowledge and skills to assist contractors throughout the Black Hills area.

Vincent Mason

Vince is originally from the Southwest and has called the Black Hills home for the past 30 years. He brings extensive experience in sales and management, particularly within the arboriculture and construction industries.
Vince is a proud father of four and enjoys spending time with his family boating, camping, and hosting BBQs.
He’s a valuable asset to the Paradigm Lumber team—and he’ll be a great asset to your project as well.

Steve brings over 25 years of experience in construction and industrial sales. What he enjoys most about working at Paradigm is being part of a dedicated team surrounded by a great group of people. He’s excited to meet new customers and build long-lasting relationships.
In his spare time, Steve enjoys golfing, playing pickleball, attending rodeos, and hiking.
